OCC Combined Concert and Community Band Performance May 5

May 02, 2023

The Olney Central College combined Concert and Community Band will present its Spring Concert at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 5 in the Dr. John D. Stull Performing Arts Center.

The evening will feature pieces the band worked on in preparation for its audition for the Percy Grainger Wind Band Festival. The Grainger compositions include Irish Tune from County Derry, Children’s March and Lincolnshire Posy.

“We have made really good progress on some difficult music, and I am looking forward to the concert,” said OCC Director of Bands Wade Baker. “We hope everyone will come out and join us for this performance.”

Admission is free. Donations will be accepted at the door.

Baker is grateful to the community for its continuing support of the Music Department.

“If anyone has an instrument they are no longer using, they can donate them to us,” Baker added. “The donations are tax deductible and will greatly benefit the program.”

Baker noted program numbers are rebounding following the Pandemic, with 19 new students expected this fall.

“It will be one of the biggest incoming freshmen classes we have had since I’ve been here,” he added. “A lot of cool things are in the works over the next two years that will take us to the next level.”
