Line Dancing Classes Start January 13

Dec 13, 2021

Olney Central College is offering spring Line Dancing Classes starting Jan. 13.

While line dancing is most closely associated with country music, Instructor Vickie Smith said her course encompasses much more.

“I use a variety of music in the classes including Spanish, some Rock and Roll and some newer pop tunes,” she added.

During the course, Smith teaches students various dances step-by-step and provides them with illustrated handouts of dance steps along with a CD of music they can use to practice at home. Typically, students learn two dances the first night of class. During the second meeting, students review the first two dances and then move on to a third.

“I try to make sure everyone who comes in gets the lessons,” Smith said. “I always ask if they feel like they are ready to move on. I want them to feel like they can ask questions during the class.”

Smith said line dancing is an excellent form of exercise for people of all ages and a great way to meet new people. Over the years, participants have ranged in age from their mid-20s to 80s.

The course, PEG 1136 Basic Education (Line Dancing), will meet from 6 to 7:50 p.m. on Thursdays at Elm Street Christian Church in Olney.
