Frontier Community College (FCC) recently awarded the Clemence Elizabeth Cox Scholarship to two nursing students.  The Fall 2019 recipients for the scholarship, which awards $500 semi-annually to two second-level nursing students at FCC, are Sara Williams and Alechia Roosevelt, both of Flora.

The Clemence Elizabeth Cox Scholarship is funded by the Jerry L. Cox Foundation Trust.  The Jerry L. Cox Foundation Trust was organized in 2018 for the primary purpose of funding the Clemence Elizabeth Cox Scholarship at Frontier Community College.  The scholarship provides financial assistance to second-level Nursing students for tuition, books, and other direct educational expenses.

Clemence Elizabeth Cox, a 1933 graduate of Fairfield Community High School, was an active member of the First Christian Church as well as civic organizations and the business community.  She and her husband, James H. Cox, owned and operated the Western Auto Store for many years and were also instrumental in building and operating the Uptown Motel in Fairfield.

The Clemence Elizabeth Cox Scholarship was established by Jerry L. Cox in 2009.  Since its establishment, a total of 44 Nursing students have been awarded scholarships.

Frontier Community College recently awarded the Debra Jean Withrow Scholarship to two students in the Nursing Program.  The scholarship awards $500 to local students enrolled in the Illinois Eastern Community Colleges Nursing Program at FCC.  This semester's recipients are Whitley Verble and Sarah Benton, both of Fairfield.  Verble and Benton are on track to complete the Associate Degree in Nursing in May 2020.

The scholarship was established in January 2007 in memory of Debra Jean Withrow, a surgical nurse who worked at Fairfield Memorial Hospital at the time of her death in 2005.  She was involved in teaching students and served as the President of the local chapter of AORN, The Association of perioperative Registered Nurses.

At the end of 2012, the scholarship fund raised by the Scholarship Trustees and members of the Surgical Services Department of Fairfield Memorial Hospital was transferred to the FCC Foundation to be issued annually as the Debra Jean Withrow Scholarship.

Frontier Community College (FCC) recently awarded the Vicky Lemons Memorial Scholarship for the Fall 2019 semester.  The $500 scholarship is awarded semi-annually to nursing students of FCC.  This semester's recipient is Marla Xanders of Fairfield.  Xanders is a first-level student in the Nursing Program.

Vicky Lemons was well-known and loved at FCC and in the community.  Serving as a member of FCC’s nursing faculty from 2006 until her passing in March 2015, Vicky played an important part not only in the education of her students, but also in their everyday lives.  A lifetime learner, Vicky was working towards a Master’s in Nursing at the time of her passing, and she was awarded the degree posthumously in May 2015.

The Vicky Lemons Memorial Scholarship was established by Vicky’s family and friends in an effort to give back to the students she loved helping so much.  Even in passing, Vicky continues to help students achieve their nursing goals through this scholarship award.

The Nursing Program is offered on FCC’s campus through Illinois Eastern Community Colleges.  To learn more, visit our website or call 618-842-3711.
