Diesel Equipment Technology

Overview
 

Students in WVC’s diesel technology program receive a well-rounded education in the diesel technology field by learning about topics concerning engines, power trains, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, air conditioning systems, brakes, suspension, electronics, planting & harvesting, GPS, equipment repair, fuel systems, and performance & diagnostic skills.

Students learn about on-highway, off-highway and agricultural fields as they proceed through the program. This allows graduates to better market themselves when selecting a career.

Diesel 1

Students also complete internships that allow them to put their studies into practice. Internships happen in a variety of places working as technicians, parts workers, sales associates, tech support, service writers, and more.

A high percentage of the students will stay at the businesses where they completed their internships.

Graduates of the diesel program go on to work in a variety of places ranging from ag dealerships, truck repair facilities, heavy equipment dealers, coal mines, automotive dealers, independent shops and farms.

Diesel 2

Students of WVC's diesel equipment technology program will have the opportunity to earn a variety of certifications such as:

  • Mobile Air Conditioning Society A/C
  • Bendix Brake Systems
  • Cummins Insite and Basic Electrical Theory & Troubleshooting
  • Snap-on Meter
  • JPro Vehicle Diagnostics
  • Forklift
  • ConMet Truck & Trailer

Diesel Tech students are able to join the Diesel Technology Club and have the opportunity to join the National Technical Honor Society if they qualify.

The diesel tech program takes its students on a variety of field trips to places and events such as:

  • National Farm Machinery Show
  • Mid-America Truck Show
  • Farm Progress Show
  • International Construction & Utility Equipment Exposition
  • CAT factories
  • Shaeffers Lubricant
  • Jasper Engines & Transmissions 
  • Field demonstration trips

In addition to general scholarships available to qualified students, the diesel program has scholarships specific to its students. They are:

  • Whayne CAT/Walker CAT scholarship
  • Fabick CAT scholarship
  • Association of Equipment Management Professionals scholarship

WVC's Diesel Equipment Technology program has been recognized as both a CAT Dealer Excellent School and an AGCO Advantage Program School.
