OCC Offering Aviation Course Starting Jan. 8

If you want to earn a pilot’s license or are just interested in learning more about flight, plan to enroll in a spring semester course at Olney Central College.

The class, TRA 1611 Introduction to Aviation Ground School, provides students with the information needed to pass the FAA written test for a sport or private pilot’s license. The class also is suitable for anyone who is already a pilot and wants to refresh their knowledge.

Long-time aviator Tom Baker will serve as the instructor. Baker has held a pilot’s license for more than 25 years, and has served as a flight instructor for more than 20 years.

Topics covered during the semester include physics of flight (aerodynamics), aircraft and engine operation, instruments, meteorology, navigation, radio procedures, flight computer and flight planning and FAA regulations.

The class will meet from 6 to 8:50 p.m. on Wednesdays beginning Jan. 8.

Tuition for this course is reduced for residents of the Illinois Eastern Community Colleges District who are taking four semester hours or less in the IECC District. To register or for more information, call OCC Student Services at 618-395-7777.
