Wade Baker Looking Forward to Leading Community Band

Community Band FlierOlney Central College Director of Bands Wade Baker is looking forward to working with the Community Band as it prepares for its 12th season.

“This is going to be a fun experience for people who are serious about music and working to get better,” Baker said. “I definitely want anyone high school age and up that is slightly interested to come and be a part of the OCC music family.”

Baker, an internationally touring jazz and blues musician, joined OCC in August. He earned a bachelor’s of science degree with a concentration in jazz studies from the University of Indianapolis and holds a master’s of music degree in jazz studies from the Cincinnati Conservatory of Music.

“I’m looking forward to meeting new people in the community,” he added. “Community Band provides a wonderful opportunity to get together and fellowship with fellow music lovers and to learn something new or something you may have forgotten.”

The Music Department even has a limited number of instruments available for use by individuals whose own instruments are no longer in working condition.

The OCC Community Band will meet from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesdays in Room 216 of Wattleworth Hall, beginning Jan. 9. The group will present its annual concert on Thursday, May 10.
