LTC's First President Reminisces On His Time At LTC
Lincoln Trail College’s first President, Dr. Joseph Piland, visited campus in March. Piland visited with current President Dr. Ryan Gower and also enjoyed lunch with the “LTC Originals” group made up of faculty and staff from the early days of the College. While he was on campus, Piland reminisced about his time at LTC and the impact the College has had on Crawford County and the surrounding area.

Corey Hall Completes Term As Student Trustee
Corey Hall says his experience serving as the Student Trustee on the Illinois Eastern Community Colleges Board of Trustees is one that he’ll never forget. “The experience was great and I would recommend anyone to do it. It was a one of a kind experience that I wouldn’t trade for anything because I got to learn so much from so many intelligent people.”

Three Music Students Pursuing Music Education
Three Lincoln Trail College Performing Arts students will pursue educations in music when they graduate from LTC this year. Braden Hook will attend Eastern Illinois University to study Music Education. Ryan Mikeworth will pursue Music Technology at the University of Illinois College of Fine and Applied Arts. Jordon Rutan plans to study Music Therapy at Saint Mary of the Woods College.

Lincoln Trail College guard Dante Combs will continue his basketball career at the University of Illinois Springfield. Combs earned All-Region and All-Conference honors for the Statesmen in the 2019-20 season.

Lincoln Trail College women’s basketball coach Scott Sparks says one of Jaylynn Brown’s dreams was to play Division One basketball. Now she’ll realize that dream after committing to the University of North Carolina Greensboro.

LTC Celebrates Art
Lincoln Trail College recognized Crawford County’s young artists at this year’s annual Celebrate Art! Event on March 5. The annual event invites high school artists to submit their work for a competition and also brings the artists to the College to hear from a professional artist. Crawford County high school students submitted 61 pieces of art for this year’s Celebrate Art! competition. The artwork was on display in the Library and was judged by Gregg Bonelli, Kelly Mullins, Brent Todd, and Winter Harmsen. They judged the work based on creativity, composition, and technique.

LTC Offering Family Caregiver Series
Lincoln Trail College will offer a series of classes in March that will help people learn how to better take care of their elderly loved ones. The Family Caregiver series begins March 10, 2020 with a class on caring for someone with Alzheimer’s Disease. The second class is March 17 and will offer tips on post-surgery care. The final class in the series is March 24 and covers household safety tips for seniors and stroke survivors.

LTC Offering Chicken Basics Class
More people are raising their own chickens and Lincoln Trail College is offering a class that will help you get started with your own backyard flock. Chicken Basics will be held March 11, 2020 from 6-8 p.m. Instructor Carrie Brown will give students an introduction to raising chickens. She’ll cover building your own brooder, purchasing or incubating your eggs and chicks, raising chicks, diseases, and feeding your flock. The cost of the Chicken Basics class is $25, and students can register by calling 618-544-8657.
Super Foods

LTC Offering Class on Super Foods
Lincoln Trail College and the University of Illinois Extension will continue their Nutrition Series at LTC with a free program on super foods on March 11, 2020. The program will give people a chance to learn more about a vegetarian diet and also give people the chance to learn about the research behind super foods and what gives them that “super” quality.
