Local quilter Laurie Rist will share her expertise with students during Olney Central College’s 10-week evening quilting course.

The non-credit class is open to varying skill levels and will meet at the West Richland Center in Noble from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays, starting Sept. 14.

Beginners will complete a designated quilting project from start to finish while learning how to read patterns as well as cut and prep material. More advanced students can work on a project of their choice with Rist’s guidance.

Students will need to furnish their own supplies and bring their sewing machines to class.

A member of the Olney Quilt Guild, Rist began quilting 14 years ago with her first project being a baby quilt for her grandson. Since then, her quilts have earned several ribbons in various shows.

“It is a good hobby and something I really enjoy doing,” she added.

Rist, who has been teaching quilting classes for four years, is looking forward to working with students both this fall and next semester.

“In the spring, we will pick up where we left off and build on what learned in the first 10 weeks,” she added.
