Career Technology Programs

 

Overview

Olney Central College's Career Technology Programs will prepare students to work in a variety of business- and medical-related office settings. Through the program, our students learn the technical and interpersonal skills that will make them key players in day-to-day operations. Hands-on training and virtual labs allow students to gain the skills they need to be successful in the workplace.

Our highly-qualified and dedicated instructors regularly meet with local employers to make sure all coursework meets employer needs.

Online Options

All programs are available fully online, excluding internships, which are generally available near the student’s location.

Office Programs

Our office-related programs prepare students with professional business skills for any office setting.

Office Administration - Degree Curriculum 

Office Administration - Certificate Curriculum

The Office Administration Program focuses on business management related courses and the ability to coordinate daily tasks and requirements of an administrative office. 

Students will study the current Microsoft Office applications including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, desktop publishing, and other communications technologies, allowing them to develop skills that will move them to the top of an organization’s must-hire list.

The degree program requires completion of an internship. Past students have appreciated the ability to gain experience in the field utilizing the knowledge learned in the coursework.

Students also take the Microsoft certification exams in Word, Excel, and Access; as an option, students may also test in Outlook and PowerPoint.

Human Resource Assistant Degree Curriculum

The Human Resource Assistant Degree focuses on business management related courses as well as the legal and ethical environment of human resources. Coursework will lead students to explore how HR professionals develop and attract employees, handle disputes, conduct discipline and work with a variety of people in an array of work settings.

Students will utilize HR software programs, which provide real-life scenarios. Students also will complete an internship before graduating. Past students have appreciated the ability to gain experience in the field utilizing the knowledge learned in the coursework.

Microsoft Office Specialist Certificate

The Microsoft Office Specialist Certificate focuses on mastery of Microsoft Office software programs.

MS Office students can sit for the Microsoft certifications after completion of the courses. Olney Central College is a testing site for these certifications.

 

Medical Programs

Our medical programs provide a current, well-rounded education for each field.

Health Information Technology Degree Curriculum

Health Information Technology is a growing field, with higher than average demand. Our HIT Degree focuses on facets of Health Information and the legal environment of the field. This is a broad program that also includes some instruction in medical coding. HIT graduates can fill positions within health information areas such as: billing, medical records, and coding departments.

The first-year of the HIT Program aligns with OCC’s Medical Coding Associate Certificate, enabling students to earn the Health Information Technology Degree with additional summer courses.

Students in the HIT Program complete an internship prior to graduation. Past students have appreciated the ability to gain experience in the field utilizing the knowledge learned in the coursework.

Students who complete the degree may sit for the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Certified Coding Associate credential.

Medical Coding Associate Certificate Curriculum

The Medical Coding Associate Certificate focuses on training a quality medical coder. Coders are responsible for translating healthcare providers’ diagnostic and procedural phrases into coded form. Coding professionals do this by reviewing and analyzing health records to identify relevant diagnoses and procedures for distinct patient encounters. Demand in the coding field is high.

Students who complete the Medical Coding Associate may sit for the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) Certified Coding Associate credential.

Medical Office Assistant Degree Curriculum

The Medical Office Assistant Degree focuses on a well-rounded, broad education in the field. Students learn about medical records, coding, clinical processes, and more.

Students complete an internship prior to graduation. Past students have appreciated the ability to gain experience in the field utilizing the knowledge learned in the coursework. This is a growing field, with higher than average demand.

OCC’s Medical Office Assistant Program was ranked One of the Top 15 Online Medical Assistant Programs for 2020.

Medical Transcription Certificate Curriculum

The Medical Transcription Certificate is designed to prepare medical transcriptionists, medical receptionists, and other related personnel for employment in medical offices.

The demand for well-trained medical transcriptionists is increasing due to the expansion of medical services, medical agencies, and the increase in medical records maintenance.
