Assessment is the systematic collection, review, and use of information about educational programs undertaken for the purpose of improving student learning and development. (Palomba & Banta, 1999)
IECC is committed to assessing student learning through assessment of student outcomes. Learning outcomes are established at various levels of the institution.

Types of Outcomes:
Learning Outcomes examine the knowledge, attitudes, and skills that students develop through curricular/co-curricular interactions; measurable, transferable skill development. They are statements indicating what a participant (usually students) will know, think, or be able to do as a result of a class, event, activity, service, program, etc.
- General Education Outcome (Institutional) – is a learning outcome that is embedded across courses, programs, and services, achievable over multiple experiences instead of the singular, and is based on the foundation of values, attitudes, and skills necessary to become responsible and concerned citizens and lifelong learners possessing the ability to think critically, communicate effectively, and solve problems in a diverse global society.
- Program Learning Outcome – is a learning outcome that occurs from successfully navigating an academic program or discipline and is achieved by degree completion.
- Course Outcome – is a learning outcome that occurs from successfully completing a specific course.
- Co-Curricular Outcome – is a learning outcome that examines the knowledge, attitudes, and skills that students develop through participation in co-curricular programs, activities, and experiences. These opportunities for learning may be nested in an academic program or at the college level.
Operational Outcomes examine what a program or process does, achieves, or accomplishes through activities and services for its improvement and/or in support of institutional or group goals; generally, numbers, needs, or satisfaction driven.
