IECC’s strategy for assessing the co-curriculum starts with the development of co-curricular activities at the college or program level. Co-curricular activities are structured learning activities that complement the formal curriculum and more often do not count for credit or toward graduation. These activities, whether embedded within existing academic programs or stand-alone activities, align with either program or institutional learning outcomes. For this reason, the co-curriculum is designed intentionally to augment and enhance standard curricular outcomes. Capturing the learning in the co-curriculum is paramount for ensuring the predetermined co-curricular outcome occurs. The development of methods, whether direct or indirect, of assessing the co-curricular learning will be led by the Program Director, Student Learning Assessment, the four Faculty Assessment Coordinators, and various campus leaders.
