Illinois Eastern Community Colleges
Celebrates Constitution Day - Thursday September 17, 2009
The observance of Constitution Day was signed into law by President George W. Bush to commemorate the signing of the Constitution in 1787. The Congress, by joint resolution, designated September 17 as Constitution Day In 2005. Illinois Eastern Community Colleges will celebrate Constitution Day on Thursday, September 17, 2009.
Illinois Eastern Community Colleges will observe Constitution Day with a variety of activities and resources to promote the study of the Constitution.
 
The IECC Colleges will be participating with various events, please see the college and listing below for specific details.
FCC
To commemorate U.S. Constitution Day, the Learning Resource Center at FCC will have a display with a copy of the Constitution plus various resources giving constitutional details. Free copies of The U.S. Constitution and Fascinating Facts About It containing constitutional trivia will be available for students. The Learning Resource Center will also be having a Constitution Day Trivia Quiz awarding prizes for correct answers.
LTC
In the Library at LTC, there will be a Constitution-related book display with free booklets of the Constitution available. Access to the IECC Constitution Day webpage which provides multiple online Constitution-related resources will also be accessible. A copy of “Our Constitution: A Conversation” a 30 minute DVD of the U.S. Supreme Court Justices discussing why we have and need a constitution, what federalism is, how implicit and explicit rights are defined, and how separation of powers ensures that no one branch of government obtains too much power, will also be available.
OCC
OCC will celebrate Constitution Day 2009 by participating in the simultaneous preamble reading at 1 p.m. outside of Student Services. A Constitution Day exhibit will be located in the Anderson Library and free booklets of the Constitution will be available to students. Several Constitution-related DVDs such as “Conversations with Supreme Court Justices Sandra Day O’Connor and Stephen Breyer”, “Judicial Independence: A Hallmark of Liberty” and “Our Constitution: A Conversation”, will be played continuously in the library area.
WVC
At WVC, a display of Constitution materials will be available in the Library and Main Hall. Also, copies of the Constitution will be available to students in Room AA 101. Students in American Government and U.S. History classes will be completing a study of the Constitution and in the "Introduction to Teaching" class, students will select one of the amendments to the Constitution and explain how they would present that information/meaning to their students.
