IECC/OCC Nursing Program Offers Cardiac Workshop
The Illinois Eastern Community Colleges/Olney Central College Nursing Program will offer the continuing education workshop, Cardiac Crash Course, from 8:30 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. on May 16 in the Brubeck Theater at Wabash Valley College in Mt. Carmel.
The keynote speaker will be Dawn Murbarger, who has more than eight years’ experience working as an EMT-Paramedic. For the past eight years, she has instructed numerous ACLS, PALS, CPR, PHTLS and National Registry EMS courses. She also taught a three-month cardiac boot camp for the nursing staff at Clay County Hospital.
Murbarger recently accepted a full-time position with Air Evac Life Team as a flight medic out of Mt. Vernon. In 2012, Murbarger relocated to Illinois from North Carolina, where she had worked for a busy EMS Department.
The workshop will help those attending to identify all life-threatening cardiac rhythms and how these arrhythmias are physiologically affecting the heart. They also will learn how to identify and interpret 12 lead EKGs and/or infraction in the myocardial walls. The workshop also will describe the correct pharmacological agents that are needed for each possible rhythm.
For more information or to register, contact Mary Corry at 618-395-7777, ext. 2140. The registration fee is $20. All registrations must be postmarked by May 9.
Participants who complete an evaluation and attend the entire workshop will receive 5.0 CE’s.
