WVC Grad Tom Selby attends SIU Medical School
Tom Selby, SIU Medical School
Tom Selby, an Olney native, graduated from East Richland High School in 2005. After graduation he came to Mt. Carmel to attend Wabash Valley College, majoring in Bioscience. He graduated from WVC in 2007 and transferred to Southern Illinois University – Carbondale where he pursued a degree in Pre-Med. A 2009 graduate of SUI –C, he is now enrolled at SIU Medical School where he will graduate in 2013.
Tom has earned countless scholarships and awards of recognition. While attending WVC, he was named Wabash Valley College Chemistry Student of the Decade ,Wabash Valley College CRC Chemistry Student of the Year and received the WVC Phi Theta Kappa Award for Academic Excellence, just to name a few. He was Charter President of WVC Science Club, a member of Student Senate, a WVC Peer Counselor, and President of Phi Theta Kappa. He achieved the CEO’s Honors List for every semester he attended WVC and was named to the SIU –C College of Science Dean’s List. He is a member of the National Honors Society, National Dean’s List and National Scholars Honor Society. He was recognized as Who’s Who Among Junior College Students and is a United States Achievement Academy Scholar. He has volunteered his time for many different causes in the past several years.
Selby was impressed with WVC’s Biology Program, and after taking a campus tour, he liked the Anatomy and Physiology setup, and was especially excited with the Cadaver Lab. Selby said, “It just seemed like a good fit, I had family in Mount Carmel. It turned out to be a great fit.” Selby has already signed a contract with Wabash General Hospital specializing in Family Practice. It turned out that WVC was the start to his career in the medical field. Mount Carmel will be excited to welcome him back when he graduates in 2013.
