Item: Treasurer’s report: $3,025.23

Item: Homecoming 2012

Surveys were tallied and the homecoming theme will be “A Night in Vegas.” The dance will be Saturday, February 18th from 7 to 11pm in the LTC cafeteria. Will need to get a DJ for that night and ideas for games/prizes. Will start looking at decorations.

Item: Santa Day

Saturday, December 3rd from 1 to 4pm. Have passed around sign-up sheet. Senate will be in charge of face painting & bean-bag-toss game.

STUDENT SENATE
Purpose Statements


Student Senate:
• To provide activities and service for LTC students that will build a sense of community
• To responsibly administer LTC student fees for the benefit of all students
• To listen and respond to LTC student concerns
• To perform volunteer service that maintains a positive image for Lincoln Trail College and LTC students
• To grow real world organizational and leadership qualities in Senate officers and members

Events Committee:
• To organize and support activities of the Senate.
• To coordinate activities between committees
• To report activities to and request support from the Senate.

Fundraising Committee
• To organize and administer fundraising activities to supplement the Senate budget
• To communicate with the Publicity Committee
• To report activities to and request support from the Senate.

Homecoming Committee
• To organize and administer LTC Homecoming activities and ceremonies
• To communicate with the Publicity Committee
• To report activities to and request support from the Senate.

Publicity Committee
• To publicize the events and activities provided by the Senate to encourage Student and public awareness and participation
• To coordinate activities with Events Committees to provide timely and appropriate publicity
• To report activities to and request support from the Senate.

Student Interest Committee
• To collect opinions and concerns from LTC Students that will guide the Senate in activity selection
• To communicate with the Publicity Committee
• To report activities to and request support from the Senate.

LTC Student Senate Constitution
ARTICLE I NAME:
Section 1. The name of this organization shall be the Lincoln Trail College Student Senate.

ARTICLE II ORGANIZATIONAL PURPOSE AND POWERS:
Section 1. The purpose of the Student Senate, hereafter referred to as the Senate, shall be to take action on behalf of the student body on matters presented to the Senate. The Senate shall act as liaison between the student body and the Administration or Faculty.
Section 2. The Senate shall plan activities with funds allocated by the College, Illinois Eastern Community Colleges District 529, and funds raised by the Senate via fundraisers.
Section 3. The Senate shall conduct elections for the Senate, for official organizations as requested, and for honorary Homecoming “Kings” and “Queens”.
Section 4. The Senate shall strive to maintain and improve the college for the student body.

ARTICLE III MEMBERSHIP:
Section 1. The membership of the Senate shall consist of annually elected student representatives from the student body at the beginning of the Fall Semester.
Section 2. To be nominated for election to the Senate, students must present a petition signed by ten (10) of their class members. They should have an academic load of at least twelve (12) credit hours and have a minimum grade point average (G.P.A.) of 2.0 on a 4.0 grade scale.
Section 3. Petitions for membership into the Senate shall be filed no later than the end of the first full week of school. The election by the student body is to be conducted by the end of the second full week of school via petition signatures.
Section 4. Petitions shall be provided to candidates during registration for the fall term.
Section 5. Special elections may be established to fill vacancies in Senate membership following the same requirements as established above.
Section 6. The Sponsor(s) shall be identified from the Faculty and or Staff membership. The Sponsor(s) shall be elected by the Senate at the same meeting as the President’s election.

ARTICLE IV. OFFICERS:
Section 1. The Officers of this organization shall consist of, President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, and Historian.
Section 2. Petitions for the position of President of the Senate shall be filed no later than the end of April of the school year prior to serving, with the election by the current Senate members to be held prior to the conclusion of the spring semester. In the event of no interest or eligibility for the Presidency, a fall election will occur, which is open to all current Senate membership.
Section 3. The officers of the Senate, with the exception of the President, shall be elected by the members of the Senate during the first scheduled meeting of the school year after election of the membership. Any Officer vacancies will be filled during the school year by a majority vote of the membership.
Section 4. Qualifications for President of the Senate are that they were a member of the Senate the previous year. Qualifications for Vice-President, Treasurer, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, and Historian are that they are members of the Senate for the current year.

ARTICLE V. DUTIES:
Section 1. The President shall preside over all meetings; call special meetings; appoint committees; and provide agendas in advance of meetings; The President shall vote in cases of ties on issues before the Senate. The President and the Treasurer have the power to sign the monies of the Senate upon a favorable vote of the Senate. The President shall also post an agenda prior to meetings on the bulletin board. The President shall exercise veto power on all Senate actions as (s)he deems necessary. A two-thirds vote of the Senate shall be necessary to override a veto. The President shall have the power to delegate authority and shall preside at all student body meetings called by the Senate.
Section 2. The Vice-President shall preside at meetings in the absence of the President and assume duties of the President in the event of a temporary absence of the President. The Vice-President shall serve as chairman of all standing committees as appointed by the President.
Section 3. The Treasurer shall be in charge of the monies in the organization’s account. (S)He shall record and report weekly on the extent of monies in the treasury, and shall prepare requisitions as authorized by vote of the membership. The President shall assume these duties in an absence of the Treasurer.
Section 4. The Recording Secretary shall keep minutes of all official meetings of the organization and note the attendance of all present, both members and guests. (S)He shall submit official minutes to the school administration and post them on the Senate bulletin board. The Recording Secretary will assume the duties of the Corresponding Secretary in his/her absence.
Section 5. The Corresponding Secretary shall prepare all communications from the organization to faculty, administration, students and the community. The Corresponding Secretary will assume the duties of the Recording Secretary in his/her absence.
Section 6. The Historian shall keep a pictorial and dated record of the activities of the Senate.
Section 7. Duties of the membership shall be to attend all meetings of the Senate, and present ideas, suggestions, or complaints from the student body.

ARTICLE VI. MEETINGS:
Section 1. The order of business at meetings shall be the Treasurer’s report, Recording Secretary’s report, club representative reports, committee reports, old business and then new business.
Section 2. Attendance is required unless members have been cleared for an absence either by the Sponsor or the President.
Section 3. Meetings shall be held once a week on days that the college is in session.
Section 4. Special meeting may be called by the President provided such meetings are announced at a prior weekly meeting or announced in the official college newsletter prior to the meeting, or all the membership and the sponsor are contacted twenty-four (24) hours prior to the meeting.
Section 5. The minimum number of members present to conduct business at a meeting shall be a simple majority of the voting members of the Senate.

ARTICLE VII. IMPEACHMENT:
The Senate shall retain the right to impeach its members, President, officers and Sponsor(s) from the Senate or from their duties for failure to comply with any Article of this Constitution by a 2/3 majority vote by the Senate members.

ARTICLE VIII. AMENDMENTS:
This Constitution shall be amendable by a 2/3 majority vote of the membership of the Senate.
