Second-half rally falls short for Lady Statesmen in 80-79 loss at SIC

Losing streaks have been a recurring theme for Lincoln Trail College's women's basketball team this season.
The latest skid for the Lady Statesmen reached four Saturday, as a late rally fell short in an 80-79 loss at Southeastern Illinois College in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play.
Lincoln Trail fell behind 38-32 at halftime, but outscored Southeastern Illinois 47-42 in the second half, only to fall one point shy.
Neither team shot the ball well at the free throw line, with LTC making 19-29 foul shots (66 percent) and Southeastern Illinois making 17-28 attempts (61 percent), but it was the longer line that was the difference.
Southeastern Illinois bagged eight three-pointers among their 27 field goals, while only two of Lincoln Trail's 29 baskets came from long range.
Alex Morgan led the Lady Statesmen with 23 points, while Justyne Sublett tossed in 21, including 17 in the second half. Ayanna Smith, Amber Crumbie and DeAsia Phillips netted seven points apiece, Erica Carpenter and Kelsie Coleman each scored six and Samantha Beatty added two.
Four players reached double digits for Southeastern Illinois, led by Kenyatta Drake with 24 points, Jasherrica Barkley was next with 14 points, Tierra Burks tossed in 12 and Ashley Morehead scored 10.
Lincoln Trail (3-23, 3-11 GRAC) will play at Olney Central College Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
