Sports Editor

A bad first half was enough to send Lincoln Trail College's men's basketball team to its third straight loss and its 10th in 11 Great Rivers Athletic Conference outings.

The Statesmen dug themselves a big hole early and could not recover on the way to a 92-73 loss to visiting Southwestern Illinois College Wednesday.

After being outscored 46-29 over the first 20 minutes, Lincoln Trail kept pace with SWIC, but was still outscord 46-44 in the second half on their way to another GRAC defeat.

Southwestern Illinois outshot Lincoln Trail from both two and three-point range, as the Blue Storm made 25 twos and five threes, compared to 19 twos and three threes for the Statesmen. Lincoln Trail did shoot nine more free throws in the game, but the Statesmen made just 26-41 attempts (63 percent), while SWIC drained 27-32 foul shots (84 percent).

Four players reached double figures for LTC, led by Jason Jordan with 18 points, including 12 in the second half. Mike Anderson tossed in 14 points, Teddy Maris netted 10 of his 12 points after halftime and Rob Reed scored 11. JoJo Hart chipped in with seven points, Jake Frazier added six, Isaac Wodajo had four and Errol Townsend had one.

Southwestern Illinois also had four players in double figures, with David Wiegmann leading the way with 20. Tony Bradley poured in 19 points, Joey Quigley netted 14 and Jordan Coleman tossed in 12.

Lincoln Trail (6-16, 1-10 GRAC) will play host to Kaskaskia College for Homecoming Saturday at 4 p.m.

It will also be Recognition Night for sophomore Drew Morecraft, who will miss the rest of the basketball season due to injury. Morecraft will be honored before Saturday's game because he will be with the baseball team during the official Sophomore Night on March 3.
