Statesmen lose to Rend Lake, 86-70

A first-half three-point barrage was not enough for Lincoln Trail College's men's basketball team to keep pace with visiting Rend Lake College Saturday afternoon.
The Statesmen made six three-pointers in the first 20 minutes, but they could not keep up with the high-scoring Warriors, who cruised to an 86-70 victory in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play.
Despite all the long-range baskets, Lincoln Trail faced a 43-33 deficit at halftime, thanks in part to the Statesmen only shooting two free throws in the first half and making one, while Rend Lake made 8-11 foul shots.
The Statesmen picked things up at the free throw line in the second half, making 19-28 attempts, but cooled off from beyond the arc, making just two more three-pointers.
Meanwhile, Rend Lake knocked down 14-22 free throws and bagged three three-pointers after halftime, on their way to outscoring LTC 43-37 to seal the victory.
Three players reached double figures for Lincoln Trail, led by Jason Jordan with 24 points. Mike Anderson tossed in 13 points, Teddy Maris netted 10, JoJo Hart scored nine, Jake Frazier chipped in with four, Ilyas Salsanov, Delvon Brown and Christian Jugah added three apiece and Isaac Wodajo had one.
Noel Allen topped four players in double figures for Rend Lake with 19 points, while Domonique Bolden and Cody Hanner scored 18 apiece and TeNale Roland added 10.
Lincoln Trail (6-15, 1-9 GRAC) will play host to Southwestern Illinois College Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
