Lady Statesmen smacked by John A. Logan, 88-57, lose 7th straight
2/10/2012
JOSH BROWN Sports Editor
A week off didn't do much to help the struggles of Lincoln Trail College's women's basketball team.
The Lady Statesmen got off to an abysmal start Wednesday and were blown out on the road by John A. Logan College, 88-57, in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play.
Lincoln Trail managed just 15 first-half points on 4-31 shooting (13 percent) and were never in the ball game, as they trailed 41-15 at the half. They picked it up in the second half by scoring 42 points, but the outcome had already been decided at that point.
The Lady Statesmen made twice as many three-pointers (12) in the game as they did two-point baskets (6), but only shot 25 percent from the field (18-71). That included a 12-36 performance from long distance (33 percent) and a 6-35 effort from inside the arc (17 percent). Meanwhile, John A. Logan connected on half of their field goal attempts (33-66), including 29-41 from two-point range (71 percent) and 4-15 from three-point territory (27 percent). John A. Logan also made 18-26 free throws (69 percent), while Lincoln Trail was 9-14 at the charity stripe (64 percent).
Gabrielle Duncan topped LTC with 18 points, all on three-pointers, three steals, two rebounds and one assist, while Erica Carpenter posted 11 points, eight rebounds and two assists. Justyne Sublett totaled 10 points, five rebounds, five assists and one blocked shot, Samantha Beatty contributed nine points, four assists, two rebounds and two steals, DeAsia Phillips netted four points and three rebounds, Kelsie Coleman added three points and one rebound and Alex Morgan had two points, seven rebounds and one blocked shot.
John A. Logan had a balanced scoring attack with six of their seven players in double figures. Austyn Ridings led the way with 18 points, 12 rebounds, six steals, one assist and one blocked shot, while Jasmine Jordan posted 16 points, eight rebounds, two blocked shots, one steal and one assist. Tikeyiah Johnson also scored 16 points for the Lady Vols, Kyra Navarette netted 15 points and 11 rebounds and Brittany Wood and Jeorgina Pena scored 11 points apiece.
Lincoln Trail (2-19, 2-7 GRAC) will play host to Rend Lake College Saturday at 2 p.m.
