Statesmen beat Lewis & Clark, 67-61
2/7/2012

JOSH BROWN
Sports Editor

The second time was a charm for Lincoln Trail College's men's basketball team Saturday.

For the second time this season, the Statesmen held a lead over Lewis & Clark Community College at halftime, but unlike the last time, they were able to hold on to the lead and extend it on their way to picking up a 67-61 victory in non-conference play.

The win avenged a 76-63 loss at Lewis & Clark Jan. 7, in which Lincoln Trail held a 42-34 halftime lead in that contest.

In the rematch Saturday in Robinson, the Statesmen clung to a 32-31 edge at halftime, but were able to outscore Lewis & Clark 35-30 over the final 20 minutes to secure the victory.

Lincoln Trail was aided by a huge advantage at the free throw line, which helped offset Lewis & Clark's 8-3 advantage in three-point baskets. The Statesmen knocked down 28-38 free throw attempts (74 percent), which included a 15-18 performance in the first half. Meanwhile, the Trailblazers were just 9-19 at the foul line (47 percent), including just 5-13 in the second half.

Of the 12 players who saw action for Lincoln Trail, 10 of them scored, including three in double figures. Rob Reed led the way with 13 points, including an 8-10 performance at the free throw line, while Delvon Brown and Jake Frazier posted 10 points apiece. Christian Jugah netted eight points, Isaac Wodajo tossed in seven, Jason Jordan scored six, Teddy Maris chipped in with five, Mike Anderson added four and JoJo Hart and Angelo Williams each had two. Oblong product Drew Morecraft played but did not score in what likely will be his final college basketball game, as he is scheduled for elbow surgery this week and is expected to miss the rest of the season.

Aqui Shareef topped Lewis & Clark with 14 points, while Domonique Walls also reached double digits with 11.

Lincoln Trail (6-13) will return to Great Rivers Athletic Conference action when they play at John A. Logan College Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
