Slow start dooms Lady Statesmen in 64-41 road loss at Lake Land
2/3/2012
JOSH BROWN Sports Editor
An atrocious start proved too much to overcome for Lincoln Trail College's women's basketball team Wednesday night.
The Lady Statesmen managed just 16 first-half points and were down by that many points at halftime, on their way to a 64-41 loss at Lake Land College in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play.
Lincoln Trail has now lost six straight games since starting conference play with two wins, which are also their only two victories of the season.
The Lady Statesmen dug themselves a 16-6 hole right out of the gate and never recovered. They would get no closer than seven the rest of the half and trailed 32-16 at halftime. Lake Land quickly pushed the lead to 20 to start the second half, while Lincoln Trail would not get any closer than 13 the rest of the way en route to the lopsided loss.
For the game, Lincoln Trail made just 15-54 field goal attempts (28 percent), including 11-38 from two-point range (29 percent) and 4-16 from three-point range (25 percent). Meanwhile, Lake Land knocked down 21-60 shots from the floor (35 percent), which included a 17-43 performance from inside the arc (40 percent) and a 4-17 effort from long distance (24 percent). Lake Land also held a big advantage at the free throw line, making 18-25 foul shots (72 percent), while Lincoln Trail was just 7-16 at the line (44 percent).
