It took a little longer than they hoped, but Lincoln Trail College's men's basketball team found their way into the win column in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play for the first time Wednesday.
The Statesmen used a big first half to propel themselves to an 83-74 victory over visiting Southeastern Illinois College, snapping a five-game GRAC losing streak and overall seven-game skid.
The win was also the first for interim head coach Mike Ray since he took over in late December.
Lincoln Trail erupted for 46 points in the first 20 minutes and held a 46-34 advantage at halftime. The Statesmen were outscored 40-37 after halftime, but were able to hang on for the victory.
The Statesmen used a huge advantage from the three-point line to pick up the win. They made 11 long-range baskets in the game, including eight in the first half, while Southeastern Illinois only made four three-pointers. Southeastern also was unable to capitalize on the 36 attempts they had at the free throw line, as they made only 20 (56 percent). Meanwhile, Lincoln Trail connected on 18-24 at the charity stripe (75 percent).
Four players reached double figures for LTC, led by Rob Reed with 19 points, including five three-pointers, to go along with six rebounds, four assists, two steals and one blocked shot. Jason Jordan totaled 13 points, 11 rebounds, one assist, one steal and one blocked shot, Teddy Maris posted 13 points, seven rebounds, four assists and one steal, Mike Anderson contributed 12 points, 11 rebounds, five assists, four steals and one blocked shot, Delvon Brown netted nine points, four rebounds and one assist, Jacob Frazier collected seven points, three rebounds and one blocked shot, JoJo Hart pitched in with five points and one rebound, Ilyas Salsanov added three points, one rebound and one assist and Angelo Williams had two points, two rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot.
