Lady Statesmen fall at Kaskaskia, 99-66

It went from bad to worse for Lincoln Trail College's women's basketball team Wednesday night in Centralia.

The Lady Statesmen struggled in the first half and dug themselves a 20-point deficit. 47-27, then were outscored 52-39 in the second half on their way to a 99-66 drubbing by host Kaskaskia College in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play.

Lincoln Trail was dominated in most areas of the game, especially on the backboards, where they were outrebounded by Kaskaskia, 57-27. The Lady Statesmen also committed 19 turnovers to just 12 for the Lady Blue Devils.

For the game, LTC made just 23-65 field goal attempts (35 percent), including 18-46 from two-point range (39 percent) and 5-19 from three-point range (26 percent). Meanwhile, Kaskaskia shot 41-69 from the floor (59 percent), which included a sizzling 36-56 performance from inside the arc (64 percent) and a 5-13 effort from long distance (38 percent). The Lady Statesmen did hold a slight edge at the free throw line, making 15-23 attempts (65 percent), while Kaskaskia made 12-18 foul shots (67 percent).

Justyne Sublett topped Lincoln Trail with 17 points, six rebounds, two steals and two assists, while Erica Carpenter posted 12 points, three rebounds, one steal and one assist. DeAsia Phillips totaled 11 points, five assists, four rebounds and one steal, Kelsie Coleman netted seven points, five rebounds and two assists, Alex Morgan contributed seven points, one rebound and one assist, Gabrielle Duncan collected six points and four rebounds, Samantha Beatty added four points, four steals, two rebounds and one assist and Ayanna Smith had two points, two rebounds and one steal.

WeNisha Mack paced Kaskaskia with 21 points, while Alesha Prince and Ciara Moore were also in double figures with 20 and 10 points, respectively.

Lincoln Trail (2-14, 2-2 GRAC) will play at Wabash Valley College Saturday at 5:30 p.m.
