Statesmen lose shootout at WVC, 99-82
1/25/2012
JOSH BROWN Sports Editor
A bad stretch to end the first half proved to be too much for Lincoln Trail College's men's basketball team to overcome Saturday night, as they dropped a 99-82 decision at Wabash Valley College in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play.
Lincoln Trail hung right with Wabash Valley for much of the first half, trailing by just one, 20-19, with 10 minutes remaining and were down by just seven, 36-29, with a little over five minutes to go before halftime. But, Wabash Valley closed the half on a 19-6 run and took a 55-35 lead at halftime. The Statesmen actually outscored Wabash Valley in the second half, 47-44, but the early deficit was too much.
Rob Reed led Lincoln Trail with 20 points, three rebounds, one assist and one steal, while Jason Jordan posted 14 points, six rebounds, one assist and one steal. Teddy Maris totaled 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal, Christian Jugah contributed six points, four rebounds and one blocked shot, Delvon Brown netted six points and two rebounds, Jacob Frazier registered five points, five rebounds, two steals and one assist, Errol Townsend pitched in with four points and three rebounds, Drew Morecraft added four points and one steal, JoJo Hart collected three points, four rebounds and two assists, Mike Anderson had three points, two rebounds and two steals, Ilyas Salsanov had three points, two rebounds and one steal and Angelo Williams had one point, one rebound and one assist.
Wabash Valley had two players eclipse the 20-point barrier, led by Monty Wilson with 28 points. Nick Wiggins tossed in 20 points, while John Cathey-Macklin netted nine for the Warriors.
With the loss, the Statesmen are now riding a seven-game losing streak dating back to mid-December and have yet to register a win under interim coach Mike Ray.
Lincoln Trail (4-11, 0-5 GRAC) will try to find their way back into the win column when they play host to Southeastern Illinois College Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
