Statesmen outgunned by Kaskaskia
1/20/2012

Second-half struggles continue to plague Lincoln Trail College's men's basketball team.

In previous games, a lack of firepower on the offensive end resulted in a couple of losses, but Wednesday night it was the defense that was lacking for the Statesmen.

Lincoln Trail overcame an early 7-2 deficit and built a 49-45 halftime lead at Kaskaskia College, but the Statesmen were outscored 49-42 in the second half on their way to a 94-91 loss in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play.

The big difference in the game turned out to be at the free throw line, where Kaskaskia went 26-36 (72 percent), while the Statesmen were 16-20 (80 percent) at the charity stripe.

Lincoln Trail made 33 field goals in the game, including nine three-pointers, while Kaskaskia knocked down 30 field goals, with eight of them from long distance.

Four players reached double figures for the Statesmen, led by Jason Jordan with 24 points. Teddy Maris tossed in 18 points, including three three-pointers, while Rob Reed netted 17 points with four long-range baskets. Mike Anderson scored 16 points, Ilyas Salsanov posted six points, Angelo Williams and Delvon Brown added four points apiece and Jacob Frazier had two.

Kaskaskia had three players scored 20 points or more in the game, led by Brady Burford with 25 points. Quan Conner knocked down five three-pointers on his way to 23 points, while Chris Hooper netted 20, 18 of which came after halftime.

The loss was the sixth in a row for the Statesmen overall and the fifth loss in as many games since interim head coach Mike Ray took over in late December.

Lincoln Trail (4-10, 0-4 GRAC) will play at Wabash Valley College Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
