Lady Statesmen win second straight

Conference play has been good to Lincoln Trail College's women's basketball team so far this season.
The Lady Statesmen picked up their second Great Rivers Athletic Conference win in as many tries this week, as they rallied to defeat host Rend Lake College Wednesday, 79-76.
Lincoln Trail fell behind 41-37 at halftime, but rallied to outscore Rend Lake 42-35 over the final 20 minutes to pull out the victory. It was the second straight win for the Lady Statesmen after an 0-12 start to the season.
Statistically, the game was pretty even, with each team making 30 field goals and committing 12 turnovers apiece, while Rend Lake held a 38-29 rebounding edge.
The difference came behind the two lines, with Lincoln Trail making one more three-pointer and two more free throws than Rend Lake. The Lady Statesmen connected on 6-15 three-point attempts (40 percent), while Rend Lake made 5-10 shots from beyond the arc (50 percent). Lincoln Trail was also 13-21 from the free throw line (62 percent), while Rend Lake made just 11-25 foul shots (44 percent).
Four players reached double figures for LTC, led by Justyne Sublett with 28 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Erica Carpenter posted 15 points and five rebounds, Alex Morgan totaled 13 points, five rebounds and two assists and Gabrielle Duncan contributed 12 points, five rebounds and three assists. Ayanna Smith pitched in with six points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal, Heather Hansen netted two points and one rebound, Kelsie Coleman tossed in two points and DeAsia Phillips added one point, one rebound and one assist.
Lincoln Trail (2-12, 2-0 GRAC) will play at No. 22-ranked Southwestern Illinois College Saturday at 1 p.m.
