Statesmen fall at Rend Lake, 93-86, for fourth straight loss
1/17/2012

JOSH BROWN
Sports Editor

After struggling on the offensive end in the second half of their last two games, Lincoln Trail College's men's basketball team was finally able to put together two solid halves of offense Wednesday night.

Unfortunately, the Statesmen didn't play very well on the defensive end in either half, sending them to another loss, this one at the hands of Rend Lake College, 93-86, in Great Rivers Athletic Conference play in Ina.

For the third straight game, Lincoln Trail was either tied or in the lead at halftime, only to be outscored in the second half en route to a loss. On Wednesday, the Statesmen held a slim, 45-43, lead at halftime, but Rend Lake erupted for 50 points, outscoring LTC 50-41 to pick up the victory.

Scoring came in bunches for both teams, as they each made 10 three-point baskets. However, it was Lincoln Trail's inability to cash in from closer range that proved costly. Lincoln Trail was just 14-26 (54 percent) at the free throw line in the game, while Rend Lake connected on 17-22 foul shots (77 percent).

Jason Jordan had a big game for the Statesmen with 30 points, five rebounds, three blocked shots, two steals and one assist, while Rob Reed posted 16 points, four steals, four blocked shots, two rebounds and one assist. Mike Anderson totaled 14 points, five assists, three rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot, Isaac Wodajo contributed 10 points, two assists and one steal, Teddy Maris collected six points, 10 rebounds and two assists, Errol Townsend netted three points, five rebounds and three blocked shots, JoJo Hart added three points, one steal and one assist, Jake Frazier had two points, two rebounds, one steal and one blocked shot and Ilyas Salsanov had two points and one rebound.

Four players reached double figures for Rend Lake, including two that eclipsed the 30-point plateau. Kevon Fortney topped the Warriors with 34 points, while TeNale Roland tossed in 31. Cody Hanner netted 12 points and Noel Allen added 10 for Rend Lake.

Lincoln Trail (4-8, 0-2 GRAC) will again hit the road in search of their first GRAC win when they play at Southwestern Illinois College Saturday at 3 p.m.
