Lady Statesmen remain winless after 101-61 loss at Lewis & Clark

A change to the calendar couldn't change the outcome for Lincoln Trail College's women's basketball team.
Their first game of 2012 ended the same way as all of their games in the 2011 portion - with a loss.
The Lady Statesmen were overwhelmed by host Lewis and Clark Community College Saturday, 101-61. Lincoln Trail fell behind 55-29 at halftime, then were outscored 46-32 in the second half.
Shooting continues to be a problem for the Lady Statesmen, as they made just 36 percent of their field goal attempts for the game (23-64), which included a 21-52 performance from two-point range (40 percent) and a 2-12 effort from three-point range (17 percent). Lincoln Trail was also just 13-22 at the free throw line (59 percent).
The Lady Statesmen were also outrebounded, 57-32 and committed 31 turnovers. It also didn't help that three of the top players for LTC from the first semester missed Saturday's game due injury and other reasons.
Alex Morgan topped LTC with 21 points, 10 rebounds and one steal, while Erica Carpenter posted 12 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in her season debut. Ayanna Smith totaled nine points, eight rebounds, three steals, two blocked shots and one assist, Kelsie Coleman netted five points and two rebounds, Samantha Beatty contributed four points, four assists, three rebounds and three steals, Heather Hansen added four points, three rebounds, two steals and one assist, Gabrielle Duncan had four points, one rebound and one steal and DeAsia Phillips had two points, one rebound and one assist.
