Turnovers continue to plague Lincoln Trail College's women's basketball team during their rugged early-season schedule.
The Lady Statesmen committed 81 turnovers in two games over the weekend at Cincinnati State College, resulting in two more losses.
On Friday, Lincoln Trail was routed by host Cincinnati State, 93-52, then the Lady Statesmen lost on Saturday to Schoolcraft (Mich.) College, 77-59.
In Friday's game, Lincoln Trail struggled in virtually every aspect and dug themselves a 58-20 hole at halftime on their way to the lopsided loss.
The Lady Statesmen shot just 30 percent from the floor (18-61), including 13-40 from two-point range (33 percent) and 5-21 from three-point range (24 percent). Lincoln Trail was also 11-20 at the free throw line (55 percent) and committed 40 turnovers, but they did outrebound Cincinnati State, 54-53.
Justyne Sublett (Louisville, Ky.) topped LTC with 17 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Kristien Malone (Indianapolis, Ind.) posted nine points, 12 rebounds, two steals, two blocked shots and one assist. Alex Morgan (Clayton, Ind.) totaled seven points, six rebounds, two blocked shots and one steal, DeAsia Phillips netted seven points and one assist, Amber Crumbie (Lexington, Ky.) contributed six points, six rebounds, two assists and one blocked shot and Samantha Beatty (Richland, Ind.) added six points, four rebounds, four steals and one assist.

On Saturday, the Lady Statesmen shot the ball much better and again outrebounded their opponent, but mistakes cost them again.
The Lady Statesmen trailed Schoolcraft, who is ranked No. 16 in the NJCAA Division II preseason poll, 39-28, at halftime, but Schoolcraft outscored LTC 38-31 in the second half to secure the win.
Lincoln Trail shot 48 percent from the field (20-42), which included a 15-27 effort from inside the arc (56 percent) and a 3-15 performance from long distance (20 percent). They were also 16-22 from the free throw line (73 percent) and outrebounded Schoolcraft, 45-35, but 41 turnovers led to the early deficit and prevented them from overcoming it.
Crumbie paced LTC with 14 points, seven rebounds and one blocked shot, while Sublett registered 14 points, six rebounds, two assists, one steal and one blocked shot. Malone accounted for 12 points, eight rebounds, two steals and one assist, Phillips contributed 10 points, three assists, two rebounds and one steal, Morgan added four points, two rebounds and two steals, Beatty collected two points, four steals, three rebounds and three assists, Erica Phifer (Indianapolis, Ind.) had two points, three rebounds and one assist and Smith had one point, four rebounds, four assists, three steals and one blocked shot.
