GED History

What is GED ?

GED stands for General Education Development.

Many people missed the first opportunity to complete a high school education. Passing the GED test can give one a "second chance" to earn a high school equivalency certificate. It is recognized as a key to employment opportunities, job advancement, further education, and financial rewards.

GED tests can't take the place of a regular high school education, but are designed to appraise the educational development of applicants who have not completed their formal high school education. Completion of IECC GED preparatory classes can provide a helpful path between missed high school sessions and opportunities beyond.

The GED Testing Program has offered millions of adults a second chance by enabling them to demonstrate that they have many of the skills they would have acquired had they been able to remain in high school.
